New postgraduate programme in Workplace Health and Safety

From 2019, Victoria University of Wellington will become the only university in New Zealand offering comprehensive, specialised postgraduate study in Workplace Health and Safety, providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to put them at the forefront of this international field.

Health and safety is becoming an increasingly important factor in workplace management and the need for qualified professionals is increasing.

The postgraduate programme is designed to be studied part-time or full-time, to fit in with work and family commitments. The courses develop the skills required to advise and support all levels of an organisation in the overall task of preventing, mitigating, monitoring and responding to health and safety risks, in order to reduce work-related fatalities, injuries or illness. Students will be able to integrate the management of workplace health and safety risk into wider risk management and sustainable business practice at all levels of an organisation, including senior management and governance.

The programme has been developed in accordance with the International Network of Safety and Health Practitioner Organisation’s (INSHPO) Occupational Health and Safety Professional Capability Framework, along with Government organisations, including WorkSafe New Zealand and Health and Safety Association New Zealand (HASANZ).
