A big congratulations to the team at the Companies Office, who are the first government body to be certified to the new health and safety international standard.
The ISO45001:2108 standard is the first international Occupational Health and Safety management system, and was released in March 2018. The objective of ISO 45001:2018 is to systematically manage, analyse and improve on processes to proactively prevent work injuries and illness. It is based on the same high level structure as the quality (ISO9001:2015) and environment (ISO14001:2015) management systems. All New Zealand and Australian organisations that are certified to the local standard NZ/AS 4801 have three years to migrate to the international standard.
The Companies Office was also the first in NZ to be certified to the quality standard ISO9001:2015, which allowed it to use the same high level structure to easily merge its Health and Safety management system. It is one of the few organisations in NZ to have dual certification.
