Yesterday, on Wednesday 12 February, we had our farewell ceremony to say goodbye to our eight 2024/2025 Government Health and Safety Interns. Our interns are finishing up their three-month placements in seven different public sector agencies located across Auckland and Wellington.

This year we had over 30 people attend our hybrid farewell ceremony. This was a first of a kind to make sure that all our interns regardless of their location could attend in-person via a live conference call to experience their last event together. We were also joined this year by family and friends in the audience.

One purpose of the farewell ceremony was for the interns to deliver their final cohort project, which was to create a promotional video to showcase the work they have completed and to encourage future interns to apply for the programme. The event was hosted by the interns, giving them the opportunity to reflect on their work experience, showcase the work they completed for their teams and thank their agencies for their support during their placements. If you want to check out the work that our interns completed for their teams’ work programmes, watch the fabulous 5 minute video.(external link)

We would like to say a big thank you to our seven agencies who hosted our interns this year. Despite the fiscally challenging environment, this programme was able to continue uplifting new talented young professionals into the HSW workforce.
